Branch piped Luft o/s cap

Or at least thats my best guess. Insignia have been removed but you can clearly see where a cockade was and also possibly an eagle. The cap is lightly worn and the piping has the same wear/age as the rest of the cap. There is a very similar cap on the Military Collectibles Inc website that has same unmarked lining and same form of piping but in orange.

What do you think?

I wouldn't touch it. Many years ago I got stung with a green piped example, fake stamps on the lining, and turned out to be Bundeswehr.

Thanks for the reply Mike- do you know of any way to tell bundeswehr from pre 45 construction wise? any other opinions?

More knowledgable members may have advice about the construction, but my fake was made from the same looking dark gabardine as yours, Also the shape isn't quite right. From memory, the lining was also the same.

I just found a photo of my piped cap, probably close to 20 years old. It's reproduced fairly well.

Also, I'm pretty sure that I found an example in one of the slim, and expensive, volumes about German uniforms by Jorg Horman. I don't have them anymore. It was identified as Bundeswehr.

With hindsight, I was very naive back then.
