    M43 Officers with Dark Trapezoid

I have seen these in enlisted grades, but not officers and am sharing it here for comment. This is a standard M43 with this wool embroidered insignia (Italian?), but has the addition of the sweatband and officers piping.

    regards, Robert

Some people like them some do not,
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

There were at least 4 of these hats, just like this at SOS. Never saw a single one there in the past. Coincidence?

I don't know if it's coincidence, but that thread posted by Lenny sure indicates that the majority of the cap collectors like them.

I've had these in non-officer versions, posted them for discussion, and never had the originality of them questioned. They are diferrent, however.

But - things change month-to-month in this hobby: what's in today is out tomorrow!

I think it is pretty obvious that they are the same as worn in this photo...But do we dare go there again...

Very cool photo. It does indeed look like the same cap, though I hesitate to breathe life into another thread about these - I should have looked harder for the posted thread.

Billbert, I had one that was an indirect buy as well. All the items were top notch, and an enlsited version of this cap was in the grouping.

Mr. Singer, that's a delicate way to phrase your opinion on these caps, and I'm surprised you haven't raced out to get one for yourself!

With the proliferation of this type of example, I do not feel any pressure of missing an opportunity.

The period pic of this cap close the discussion IMO : ORIGINAL...
                          and probably foreign manufactured.

There seems to be no doubt that this variety is wartime so therefore original. This is not to say that there may not be copies of this variety now or in the future.

For me it does not matter if a majority of collectors like something or not, only if it is original or not. I think that the photos and other information in the thread that was linked (one of my all time favorites on WAF) settled forever the question if this cap variety existed wartime.

I am in the same camp as Phild. Based on the photos I do think some form of this cap existed. But the ones at SOS that I handled were sloppily made and not something I feel comfortable with.
