I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree.

Like said, contrary to regulations but authentic examples do exist (and I'm not confusing rebuild post war BGS and West German caps).

Have to say that I agree with the consensus and that I find myself liking the looks of this one. The liner does seem to lack use/sweat stain of any form from what I see, although the overall cap is fairly clean, and I generally approach any cap with an edelweiss with a degree of skepticism since these are commonly used to deceive. What I do find interesting is the Po42 stamp, which places it in the range of noted regulation before the introduction of the einheitsmutze and also I believe it was mentioned before in one of the linked threads with the edelweiss authorized by the police for use in 1941. Post 43 caps by regulation did not have branch denoting piping, although there seems to be some discussion about non-regulation and private purchase. In one of the linked threads there was mentioned of finding a picture of a Einheitsmutze / M43 with piping applied to the edges, although unclear if that was other ranks or officer grade. A tricky area with all the postwar mods.

The liner is stamped with PO42, size 57 and Lago Wien 42.

A question that goes beyond the cap that is subject of this thread but is certainly related:

Are there any authentic examples known that have the double row of stitching on the brim/visor of these (Police) Bergmütze? Similar like the one that was discussed:
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...reen+piped+cap. Could this perhaps have been a production method used before the introduction of the M43 Einheitsmütze?

I know of at least one that is published in Bender's Uniforms of the German Police and I think another one in Munoz' Hitler's Green Army.

It seams that most similar post war M43 style caps have this feature but otherwise differ in construction, materials and liner (they often have a sweatshield as well).
