Harry, IMO it's an original Erel.

The side button look to have been replaced though. They wouldn't be gold on any but a General officers cap.

Very nice saddle shape... too bad the cap in not in better condition.

            Hi Harry,

Besides the replaced chin cord buttons, IMO your cap looks correct. You should check under the sweatband (forehead area) for the what is called Frischluft (air system devise). This is because your cap has the spesial cockade vent system.

            Best Regards,
            Tony

Thanks guys, please tell me more. so the gold buttons would only have been used on a general's hat? Is the vented cockade early or rare? Are all Erel hats marked on the diamond and the sweatband? What do you think the value is? There is some mothing on the top.

Harry, if you could get in to this one at $400. ( I haven't seen the top mothing) and switch out the buttons you would be doing well with a 'nice' original starter cap!

Heck if the buttons are indeed original General buttons (not Political) even they may help offset your costs for the cap!

Wow Dave, that's exactly what I paid. I'll take a close up of the buttons so you can tell me what they are.

It is a nice original Erel and the mothing tracks is better than holes. These can be repaired very easy by scraping some pile and patting it into the tracks. The buttons as mentioned are incorrect. The cockade is nothing special on this one.

A good buy at $400 for an officers visor in worn condition.

Sorry for the delay. Here is a pic of the button. Is it for a general or is it political?

Harry, as busy as the pic makes the button appear it's probaby 'political' and very common. Too bad!

It is still a great cap though...
