Hat Cockade - Any Idea what Hat it belongs with?

I got this hat cockade that has a button shank on the back instead of prongs. I have never seen one before and was wondering how it was used.

Its the "Reichskokarde", and it potentially belongs to dozens if not hundreds of Imperial German and Third Reich visor caps. Ones with this shank would have most likely been worn on a washable cap (summer, tropical etc.), but its really impossible to say...

Arran is right. The cockade uses a cotter pin for the back to keep it in place, as it is removeable for washing.

There is one of these in the Assmann catalog.
