OSS - I think we were confusing it with the NPEA:

No, the buckle you show is Studentenbund but the cap starting the thread has a slightly different eagle with the upper wings appearing more like the SS eagle and the shield surounding the Swastika more rounded than the angular Studentenbund type. Close but not quite; I have learned something today.

Well, perhaps you were not, but I was erroneously recalling the NPEA/Studentenbund shape as being like the eagle on the cap. It was similar, but not the same, and RonR was exactly correct in his identification. When compared, the two eagles are quite obviously different in some basic respects.
