    GJ Cap for Review

I like the liner and construction details of this cap. The non-police shade of green piping is encouraging, as is the lack of a sweatshield or large post-war logo. Grommets look fine for a non-tropical cap, and the sweatband looks correct.

Is this an original pre-1945 GJ cap, or a post-war piece? I appreciate the review.

    regards, Robert

            Servus Robert,

I don't know if your cap is wartime or post...but I do know that it is not a Gebirgsjäger Bergmütze. The GJ Bergmützen do not have green piping on them.

Here's one from my collection as a reference for you:

            Berg Heil und Horrido!

Yes, it could be Customs, I agree. Patrick, thanks for pointing out that it is not a standard bergmuetze, and a great example you've posted there.

                  regards, Robert

John, I'm not sure what you mean by protection police.

There were mountain troop caps that had green piping, of course. These were the police outfits that were mountain qualified, and some of these GJ police outfits wore caps with piping.

This could be a police one, and be a bergmuetze. Or it could be customs - they had a version of the bergmuetze as well. I just don't know, but it looks wartime to me.

                      regards, Robert

                        Grüß Di' Robert,

Could be from Polizei-Gebirgsjäger Regiment 18...they had green piping on the crown of their caps. Could perhaps be Zoll (customs) or Ordüngspolizei also, but I'm not an expert in those areas.

But it is a nice looking Bergmütze either way!

                        Berg Heil und Horrido!

Looks like a BundesGrenzSchutze cap to me.
