What exactly is wrong with this cap? I am not well versed in Panzer M43's so please educate me. Thanks.

I agree with lenny, there was a guy who made these up and used that weird color "bias" material, look at the keyholes where the front buttons go, looks like they are hand done and not machine stitched,

Hard to tell but I will take your word for it. Is this the only problem with the cap?

No, the whole construction and materials used are a tell tale key to the guys work who made it, When you see a few of them you will learn it and just know, You need alot of hands on with these things, the guy also does all the other hats as well, I have a SS PZ M43 here that was sent to me on consignment and its the same material and construction and bias as on this one. Experiance and hands on is whats needed.
