Do you happen to know why insignia is woven on "real color" backing at all at all as opposed to the same wool as the visor itself? It just seems like an extra, unnecessary step.

I've no clue Jason, but it's the same like tropical jackets etc, almost faded to white with what looks like a brand-new eagle in fresh colors.
It's not a rule, but these combinations can be found quite often.
Also have seen the opposite, off. luft eagles with faded to tan backing, (ofcourse selling as tropical), while others will not react to anything.
