Posted is a true officer's grade shirmmutze for the gemeindenpolizei. The GemPo was the small town municipal police which were uniformed and equipped by the municipalities. Officer ranks were rare as most small towns had very limited personnel, and frankly didn't want to spend the money to hire officer ranks.

These carmine red piped police caps are very difficult to obtain, particularly in decent condition. This one has a nice two piece "officer's grade" eagle device, and appears to have never been altered or modified. Some minor moth grazing but no holes or damage. In the police cap world, a "rare" cap.

Standard generic interior. No stamps. GemPo uniforms were issued by the city and did NOT contain PO stamps for the most part. GemPo units were small and depot storage of uniforms, and subsequent approval marking was NOT necessary.

Great lids, Bill. When did the order come down directing the Gempo to wear Schupo green?

I believe the GemPo was dissolved in the great order of 1941 when so much else changed for the "duration of conflict".
