Lw em signal visor near mint opinions

MY UNCLE BROUGHT THIS BACK FROM WW2. i HAD IT FOR SALE ON ESTAND AND WAS TOLD SIGNAL WAS NOT A POPULAR BRANCH. PLEASE STUDY THE FOTOS AND NOTE THE DEFECT WHERE THE CHIN CORD HAS DAMAGED THE FIBER OR LEATHER BILL. I INCLUDE THE INSIDE TO SHOW THE MAKER. ANY HISTORICAL INFORMATION WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I ASSUME THIS WAS A PRIVATE PURCHASE AS IT IS HIGH QUALITY AND IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. THE DAMAGE IS DUE TO STORAGE. THERE WAS A DARK ORANGE SPONGE BEHIND THE LEATHER LINER AT THE FOREHEAD WHICH HAS TURNED TO DUST PARTICLES.
I WAS THINKING OF TAKING A FINE BRUSH AND PAINTING A LINE OF BLACK PAINT TO STOP THE DAMAGE. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOME. MANY THANKS, JOHN WILSON

Great cap! If I was you I wouldn't touch it. If you do, by over painting the "defect" at the same time it would heart the value of the cap

Leave it as is, it's part of it's history ... like trying to press a dint out of a helmet.

A cap in this condition is desirable regardless of branch!

I agree, do not touch it! It is also a nice sign of originality. Please leave as is.

mANY THANKS FOR OPINIONS. hAVE YOU ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE MAKER?? I think Silesia is part of Poland today but as these fragments of old tribal areas have changed hands over the centuries I could be wrong. I will take your advice and leave it alone. It is one of my favorite items. I must say this..I wish they still cared about their uniforms as they did during this time period. They were splendid morale boosters and, in my opinion, the best designs ever. I see the BW luftwaffe has switched to the beret and it is simply ordinary compared to the visors and sidecaps. John

The first time I ever got ripped off in this hobby was over an Ostland 1939 luft em visor. Good memories!
