    Luftwaffe side cap.

Well I made one of my first purchases of German militaria this past weekend when I picked up this side cap at an auction. I have been collecting US stuff for the last 2 year and I am now starting to get into German stuff.

Anyways I would really like to know your guys opinion on this side cap. I am starting to get nervous about it now that I am getting a little more time with it. Hopefully you guys can put some of my fears to rest.

I would say the insignia is a repro as well
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

Sorry really bad. You can see where the original tag was removed.

Yeah that was the very first thing that I noticed when I finally got it out of its package was where the tag was that was my first clue. Then when I didnt see that exact insignia with the eagle and circle on one patch showing up on others that I was looking on the board I was fairly certain. I suppose that is why the the auctioneer said it was a "German" hat not a "WWII German hat" or "Nazi hat" like he called the rest of the German stuff at the auction. Looks like I have a nice example as to what not to look for.

There's an Army - Navy surplus store here who has those modern Luft overseas caps at $2.oo - $3.oo each,,,, stacks of them, including the modern German Army ones as well.

Don't feel too bad. The first cap I bought at a flea market turned out to be a fake as well.
I became a student real fast on how to determine the difference. Just look at originals on the forum and get a few good reference books on the subject.
