Summer White top Political Leaders Visor Hat - Kreisleitung level.

I posted this hat under another forum and someone asked that I post photos of it under the headgear section since it’s a pretty unusual summer “White top” Political leaders visor hat.

I picked it up last week from the son of the veteran who brought it back. It came with a few daggers as well.

It’s not mint by any means and is a bit loose and dirty, but it is what it is. The side buttons do not appear to be correct, but there appear to be period replaced and are very loose. The sweet band is coming apart and is very stiff. I can see not RZM tag or any markings, but it’s hard to look inside due to the stiffness of the sweet band. I tried to get a mirror behind the band and I still see nothing. I’m afraid to pull it out to much because of it’s stiffness and brittle threads holding it on.

I’m not an expect on Political Leader visors at all, but I understand that the white top ones are fairly scare so I thought I’d share some photos. It is white piped as well which is for a Kreisleitung (District level - German counties).

    Enjoy...Dave

I see some issues with it. Note the wool trim below the bottom ring of white piping--it is LW blaugrau, when it should be PL Tan. Visor is also textbook LW. Is the velvet just loosely applied over a black mohair wool band? If so, the hat is rarer still--it would be for the HG division.

If a genuine wartime hat, then at the very least, the PL was either in the LW and converted his LW hat to PL, or the haberdasher where he bought the hat was fresh out of white-top PL visors, and converted a LW visor for him.

I saw this posted with the daggers and thought it was a real salty devil. But looking at the chin strap buttons, I am wondering what they are? Are they buttons or studs?

WOW....That's cool. When I saw the inside I immediately said luftwaffe......but that wreath looks like it's been there a while. Definitely an interesting cap

It is no doubt a re-banded Luft white top. The piping has been added also.

I would have very serious concerns with this cap

So much for direct (or indirect) veteran purchases....

The buttons are actual round ball style buttons that are sewn on, not studs.

I just noticed that the top is removeable, but I am scared to snap it off.

The wreath has been removed and reattached at least once based on the holes on the inside of the band.

I bought this from the vets son (who told me is was from an SS Officer..ha!). The veteran is alive still at 90 and in a nursing home, or so he said. I'm going to see if the son will introduce me to his dad and see if I can learn anything about this hat more directly.

Definitely a Frankenstein. It is possible it could be period made, but not something worth a great deal.
