Hi,
Any idea about the value of this cap ?
many thanks
Jan
Hallo Jan
From zero to infinity. It depends...
I agree that there is more than a simple chance that it is a real war-time one and I particularly agree with Stepdale about the use of german language on the label. But I have to insist on my request (thank you djpool for your support ), also because your interpretation of the inscription is incomplete.
I dont see anything i like about the cap with the horrible pictures provided hows that for context he was asked to provide more pictures but never did
Lenny.
The cap doesnt look like the fakes around, and why bother faking the lining and the rest of the leather around.
Well, if they atleast added SS insignia to it it would be more possible.
This one is not textbook, but it sure look like its the real deal.
Im not here to pick a fight with you, so please dont think that , but what parts do you not like? You can PM me if you want, im here to learn, and if i saw that cap for sale for reasonable money i would take it, thats why i wonder.
"Why give the cap a negative opinion and then go to total silence? "
Because he made an "ooops" and it can be embarrassing, especially for somebody like Lenny that folks turn to for advice on these exact caps.
Nobody here is a real expert, and nobody has their livelihood at stake based on what we say here. Everybody just needs to think carefully before we offer opinions. I myself have made the mistake of a "knee jerk" reaction too.

Great cap!
no mistake (ooops) here, just my humble opinoin based on the pictures privided, still waiting for close up pics of the paper tag and liner material
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.
While the gabardine looks of wartime Italian origine, I have NEVER seen an original M43 with any type of label such as this one. Personally, I would pass unless it was dirt cheap..... $50. I doubt it was a movie prop but I do suspect post-war. Great coats of this material were easy to find and "re-cycle" early on. Show me another example of this type label???? Just my opinion.
