Craig out of all the generals I seen in 21 years 90% have been rebuilt lower ranks.

I have to say based on what I see here it sure looks to be a one-looker. Everything is as it should be. The cap is a Erel circa 1938-1940. Correct piping, correct insignia, correct lining, correct sweatband, correct chin cord, correct materials, correct shape all from that 38-40 time frame. I am impressed.

Also, here's a question, based upon your comment about "rebuilds" - I had been told by a contact that the fakers in Germany don't have gold bullion piping available like they do colored piping, and that buying a General's visor is relatively safe, from a "rebuild" perspective. Can you share your knowledge about older rebuilds, from when, I take it from your comments, they DID have gold piping available?

The comment on piping may be correct as of now but two things. One, hundreds have been built from the early 70's until now. A lot right here in the US. The older ones have bullion for the most part. Most of the ones done in the 80's and 90's have cello piping. Period bullion piping was available in the 70’s. God knows how many are out there. Two, buying a generals in NEVER safe. They were faked well before SS visors. You certainly look to hit the jackpot. Any good story behind it?

Well, sort of a good story. There was a collection that was being broken up, and I wasn't one of the dealers invited to the party. From what I hear, some discontent at the in-room preview was caused when one dealers started a discussion about a fake high-end visor that had been sold to the collector by one of the other dealers present. Caused a bit stink, and all dealers were invited to leave. As a result, many of the "choice" items never got viewed.

I started browsing as the collection was being unpacked for general consumption at the tables during the show. I guess rumor had gone around the show that the "good stuff was gone" but not so. Doing a little digging, I found several nice items that the feeding-frenzy had missed, including this visor. This once, it paid to be on the "outside" of the "in crowd."

Dealer=high end fake? Hmmm, a few names come to minds. I would have had a heart attack if I seen that still sitting there.

I find it interesting that the Erel advertising paper is under the sweat shield. Has anyone seen this before?

That's actually typical, if memory serves me. There is a part of the tag that sticks out from the plastic, that is gone. I don't know how owners were supposed to remove the tag, the way they installed them.
