    Waffen SS officer M43s

    Hi,
Just wanted to add my 2 cents, if no one objects. I happen to have 3 Waffen SS officer M43s in Italian wool on my site. I have 2 that came from Mike Beaver, without insignia and a third I picked up at the SOS that has the trapezoid originally sewn to it. I have seen the fake "Statni" marked cap and they are very good, but are not perfect. Those of you that know the details on these caps, will undoubtabley agree. As for the first cap on the post, I saw one with condition and buttons very similar to this that was originally on a German site and then was at the Stuttgart show. It was very convincing, but for me and a friend I was with that also collects SS cloth, not 100% convincing. Just my opinion. Also, I think the reason for seeing more of the officer M43s (original ones) in Italian gaberdine, is because after the wall came down was when they were liberated from the Statni film studio and had not seen the light of day before then. Nearly all were in mint condition and were captured from a Czech (I think) factory that made them. If there is more to the story, someone please fill in the details. Just my opinion.

    God Bless,

    Gerard Stezelberger

Yes, I understand. I think though, you have to take each cap on a case by case basis. The good fakes I've seen, you could not tell from photos on the internet. Only hands on examination will tell the story.

          Gerard,

Wow, now I'm really confused! I posted photos of the first cap in this thread. Do you recommend that I pass on it?

          Thanks and best regards,
          Erich

Sorry, I don't get on here much, but decided to check back this morning. I inspected a very similar cap to this, while over in Germany. It had also been on a German dealer website earlier. It seemed more new than unissued. The buttons on it are more what you would see on a bergmütze. The inside I did not like though. Yes, it could have been privately made, but I guess it's just my own opinion, when buying SS, I think sticking to the "textbook" is really important. I can't say this cap is the same obviously, without handling it, but I would have reservations.
