    lazy date stamping??

I have two field caps (m34) from the firm of AUG. JANOK - LINZ and they are both dated 1939. Both have subdued bevo insignia. One is made of early quality wool and the other is early wartime quality.

Has anybody heard of manufacturing firms being lazy about date stamping? These two caps just don't seem like they came from the same factory in the same year.

    Thanks - Earl

I hear ya on that but it's really a yes or no kind of question. One of the main topics at the SOS this past weekend (other than the ****ty sales) was the fact that showing your collection here just invites people who know NOTHING to comment, and that's rarely good. You know the type I mean.

I'll word my question in a better way:

Does anybody have more than one field cap from the same manufacturer and year, with noticeably different construction to each?

      Thanks - Earl

        Hi Earl,

I don't know if original or not..may be someone can help us...but herewith a PZ Cap (Yellow Waffenfarbe), with the name of the Producer JANOK-LINZ 1939...apparently like yours...

I would appreciate your feed back...

        regards
        Luis

So I would say original Aufklarer, or 24 PZ Div?

The panzer sidecap was introduced in 1940 (for NCOs and enlisted men) - that does not mean this black cap is a fake but one should be very careful.

I think the 1939 stamp on a cap with a spring 1940 introduction date is another reason to think this manufacturer was "lazy" about such details. They are an Austrian firm as well, so perhaps they were not as enthusiastic about the new "nazi" orders as a German firm might have been.

The cap is no reproduction, that's for certain.

I think thats not the explanation. There was (and is) a strict reglement within the army when it comes to new equipment. Thats not a matter of a single firm and if this firm is lazy or not. Nevertheless I repeat that does not mean this cap is a fake.
