This beautiful, near mint condition Infantry Officer's visor came out of the woodwork, thanks to the efforts of a fellow WAF member here in Germany. It arrived last week.
I have never owned a Wilhelm Welhausen made hat before. I could not be more impressed with this company's style and worksmanship. Of course, these hats are distinctive for the high and bent back peaks and this one features a beautiful, quite thick chincord, which I understand was an option. Welhausen was also a tailor in Hannover and Kassel and made uniforms as well.
The sweatband is very unusual in that it is very, very smooth and almost not like leather. Perhaps it isn't as this one is quite stiff and unbendable, therefore I have made no attempt to look further. It also melds with the liner -- I hope you can see this in the photos -- where it blends beautifully and the liner drapes so slightly over the top of the sweatband. I am also very partial to bullion insignia and the wreath is quite stunning on this one.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. These are really gorgeous hats.
