Officer's Roundel Question

I have seen a number of roundels. for officers overseas cap, that have had the black section made of of cord that was not metallic. I thought original officer grade roundels would have the black ring made of metallic bullion in black.

Please let me know if originals were ever made from black cord.

It's certainly true that many copies use thread rather than bullion wire, which gives many a bad taste for a roundel that does not use bullion. That, however, does not make use of thread wrong or incorrect and I have personally seen several examples which used thread which were undoubtedly 100% correct and original.

I would be quite thankful myself if anyone could manage. I have a listing in the E-stand wanted section for one of these. I have seen some on the GMC but the sellers credibility i'm uncertain of due to comments based on this forum??? Thank you.

Bob - This is probably not exactly what you are looking for, and it is a different sort of design anyway, but here is a photo of the roundel portion of a Navy cap wreath. Going out from the red center, there is a horizontal section of tarnished silver bullion, surrounded by wire, but then another circular area which is just thick black thread just before you get to the final circular section of gold bullion.
