Many thanks gentlemen - this is helping me get a better feel for these particular caps -Hello Mike - the black dachua cap is sitting nicely with my other M43s!

I'm taking a detailed hands on look at the "odd" local M43 example tomorrow mentioned above in an earlier post so we shall see!

Nice original W-SS M43 but I am quite certain that the insignia is a darker green, and not black.

Although I am not an insignia collector, that is an unusual trapezoid, the skull’s “highlights” (eyes, nose etc,) appear a lighter green and not dark green or black on my monitor.

A varient perhaps?..It almost seems the back of the insignia was woven in black (maybe) based on these 2 images circled in red. ...It also almost looks like the machine operator avoided the black or darker section when the insignia was sewn across the top.

          Best,

Maybe the SS cloth fellows could tell if this is a variation or just a common variety of trapezoid.

Hopefully this has uploaded a very rough picture of the unusal M43 I ve mentioned above. Sorry picture is so poor but was in a rush and my camera batteries were on blink so used my phone.

The cap itself is IMO probably genuine following a hands on (interior lining matches my late war caps, bias material in place, loops correct)- but the "trap" is a very strange affair that is either a post war lash up or a period lash up! Im leaning to the former looking at the trap shaped felt sewing quality which is not as good as the eagle application to the trap backing.

The eagle is outlined dark green and appears to be a bevo type which has been sown in an almost factory applied stitch onto a rough felt like trap with integral cocade. The stitching of both trap shape and eagle does not go through lining.

Any opinions? Anyone seen this before? Is it junk?

This cap has been in a collection for last 25 years so if a fake - its an old one!

certainly looks bad but as you mentioned much better pics are needed
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.
