My cap insignia, real or fake?

I always thought they were real until someone said fake. Are these pics good enough to tell? Please just dont chime in and say fake just because they are more likely to be fake than real, tell why also so I can understand. Thanks alot.

How did you arrive at that conclusion? You see I am trying to learn how to detect fakes so the next time I can be sure to avoid being tricked.

The best thing you could do is search the forum for good detailed pics of both original and fake skulls- looks closely at the details. For starters, look at the eye and nose holes in the first skull you posted- are they well-defined? Look at your insignia under magnification- is there evidence of casting?

Ok. Well the second eyes look better defined if I understand what you mean by that. I dont know how to find evidence of casting. I am comparing them right now to insignia on a real cap. It is hard to tell a big difference. I thought it might be easier to tell from the back. In any case they look good on the caps, I just thought they were real. They certainly would fool every non serious collector.

Spending more time reading and studying SS insignia than getting into pissing matches with owners of poor fake caps.

30 hours of studying the known fake SS insignia would have told you enough to see these are fake ... let alone 30-odd years.

OK, I'm being unkind, to be fair before I came back into SS militaria around 1999 these would have fooled most people. Some of these fakes date back to the late 70's and were WAY better than the fakes before then.

You kind of come off as hostile. Keep in mind I am a part time collector, this is not a big part of my life. Why would I waste 30 hours studying any insignia? I thought I could come here and ask the people who make this stuff their lives and get a friendly answer. Many people here remind me of the jocks I used to see around my high school locker room.

If you're not prepared to put a little time in doing research yourself, all you're really entitled to is a "real" or "fake" response, without much explanation...

Well, had the insignia on the 3 caps been real, it would have been worth in the $8000 ballpark. Surely you can see that study would not be a waste of time? To call it such insults all of the people here...

As for the jocks in the locker room, were you asking them to explain the rules of football, or for lessons in picking up girls? That's the equivalent of what you've been doing here...

I think you've said enough there.
