      The Inside

Here is the inside of the cap. There is a diamond outline I suppose where the name of the owner would have been.

        A Close Up

Here is a closer view of the eagle and cockade. I dont know anything about this type of stuff, but the eagle looks suspicious to me. Opinions please.

          The Stamp

Here is a stamp that is on the inside of the liner band. Hopefully it makes sense to someone out there. Thanks for looking guys, I look forward to seeing what you have to say.

            Hi EK -

Greetings from Bryan, Tex-Ass! Looks like a nice EM/NCO Arty visor cap. I can't tell for sure on the eagle, but it may be a replacement - the wreath's and eagle's patina don't match. Otherwise, nice pick-up!

I agree w/Don...in the pic of the insignia the eagle does not have the same degree of age and it looks like you can see where the old insignia was (above the left wing)...

Hi, your cap is a private purchase other ranks/NCO's cap. You can determine this from the lining and the ink stamp you have shown. Issue caps were lined with a rust coloured lining. This stamp was done by an inspecting Officer or Senior NCO to check that this privately bought cap was regulation in form and design. The word "Gepruft" = "checked". The unit markings are for Art. Regt 51. Here is a link to some info on the unit:

I would agree that the eagle might be a replacement, but I think that you got a bargain. Vet acquired items are getting harder to obtain as the Vets are dying off fast. It would be nice if you got a photo of you and the Vet with the caps and get him to write a little note of where and when he picked the two caps up. You are then preserving a little bit of history

                Cheers, Ade.

                  Thank you

Thank you all for the kind info. Do you think that the eagle is an orriginal that was added later on, or is it as I feared, a repro? Also, what sort of price tag would you put on something like this.
                  Thanks

Hi, the eagle might be original. But a good, clear, close up pic would be need to tell for sure. Idealy a pic of the reverse too, BUT do not remove the eagle unless it is loose! Bending these pins may well break them. It would be impossible to tell if the eagle is a period replacement or not.

I would estimate a "value" of $250 tops given the caps condition.

                    Cheers, Ade.
