    Hi Ben,

John has forgotten more than I'll ever know about luft tropical caps, but this one doesn't do it for me either.

The grommets and the the Berolina markings don't give me the "warm and fuzzy" feeling.

This type of cap is a bit ss-like, with difference that there's no seam at front ..

It's the same with the Lago-Berlin and Clemens Wagner stamps.
        Hi Ben

Agree with You on this point for sure. Some makers had several different stamps. Just cause it is different does not mean its bad all the time....

Clemens Wagner had at least three different stamps on tropical caps. The "standard" oval, the four line stamp and the one stamped with an oval that only lists Braunschweig on the lower line inside the oval.
So would not be so quick to dismiss a cap just by the stamp not being recognized. Not saying this cap is good as i can not really make that call.

        kind regards
        Tim

This is not a good sign in my opinion Tim.

          The wedding was a blast!

Jos, please try to find a period photo of a Luftwaffe cap without the false flap. The cap in question is clearly not an SS cap because of it's bogus markings, the wrong grommets and incorrect construction details.

I didn't really want to get into another stamp debate but there's a huge difference between the one above (that I would agree looks very suspect) and the one in the cap in question.

The above stamp doesn't conform to the maker stamp in the pic I provided. Wrong size fonts for letters and numbers indicate a copy IMO.

                Arrgh, these bloody Berolina stamps!

                Does this stamp conform?

                  Hi Ben,

Not that it matters now, as this cap has been given the 'kiss', but following further research and sufficient amounts of coffee, I dont like either cap eagle. I can email you the reasons if you want, but a good explanation was provided on a current thread in the luft section, on a pilots afrika tunic and I think the same points raised apply to the eagle on the cap you posted as the thread starter.

I don't like it either. Markings, aging. construction details, grommets, etc are all concerns.

Is it a Berolina style cockcade? Eagle?

Two more original BEROLINA BERLIN stamps for comparison/reference

Instead of going on about stamps in this thread, I've added to the debate on the pinned tropical sidecap thread instead.

The cap that started this thread arrived with me today but alas, too dark to take proper photos now.

Is there anything in particular I can take photos of for you Gentlemen?

Think these two don't have false flaps, one has seam at front, the other one has not IMO ..

Nice to see one has large eagle ..

Ok, more photos taken today. I won't say what I think yet.
