I received Dr. Erich Matern's "Hilfsbuch für den Sprachunterricht in der Kriegsmarine" today & was very thrilled to learn that Erich was stationed at the Mürwik Glücksburg Naval Academy. Futhermore, he was not just an ordinary teacher --- he was an English teacher ...

Ben, nothing more so far. He was born in 1904 so that means he'd have to be 106 years old today. Not impossible but highly unlikely. The last higher ranking officers are passing away these days. Last month, the last officer (a SS Hauptsturmführer 95 years old) I personally knew passed away in my hometown.

Thanks Nick --- my first guess was that this teacher probably taught at the Naval Academy since the maker "Die Nordmark Mütze" is from Flensburg (where the Academy is). This makes it better of course .

Richard, which cast off one do you mean?
