The tops of the grommets on post #58 and #60 look like metal to me. Those on the French made cap in post #59 could be plastic (appearance as well as rough inner edge), but I can't say for sure from the pics.
Or are they also metal, Willi?

        Ah, okay, thanks, Lenny.

Anyone who encountered grommets with plastic covers on top, not just on Luftwaffe headgear?

Plastic is not a good sign, IMHO.

Grommet from a Luft. Berg cap.

Grommets were never painted, on this particular cap, that is.

              Thank You, John.

But does that mean that there never existed such grommets with plastic cover? You all are very cautious with Your statements.

Also I would be glad if someone could comment on the rest of the cap, beside the strange grommets. Eagle, cockade, construction ... I think that's all okay but I may be mistaken, of course.

              Glad for any help!

I hadn't the time to go through the pics of all my books yet, but in the forum I found two good pics of Panzer M43s with grommets:

              Have a nice evening,

Steve, great pics, I've never seen the first one before. Notice that both caps obviously don;t have black painted grommets, how would that sit with collectors today?

What you have to consider though is the existence of the Pz M42 cap that had grommets as standard and were frequently, like feldgrau M42's, period converted with a schirm to resemble M43's. To my knowledge, the Luftwaffe had no such cap.

                  m43 cap

hi ramjet, i had one of the 12 caps sent to me, one without gromets, myself and paul had a good look at it and back it went. Paul has collected for 25 years, its gut feeling Ben will tell you this. You can look at all the books, in the world with pics but they wont help, people dont understand how hard it is to get a real luft officers, m43. i only noticed your cap a few months, back paul; phoned me and said theirs that m43 or one very like it. He had two for sale for months but no takers. sorry, Jim&Paul.

Ah, thank You very much (also to Lenny), that's clear enough now!

I hoped that anyone else had bought a cap of this batch and could comment on the base of having it in hands for himself.

And also thanks to Ben for a intensive and good PM conversation.

Obviously I've been fooled by this cap, but so what: **** happens! I was convinced for four years now that it was genuine ...

                      I will take appropriate action.

Thank You all for helping and giving Your opinions!
