Help with overseas cap ID please.

Shown here is an overseas cap I found a few weeks ago. The inside is marked NVA 1856 C ~ 53 ~ 056. Has anyone seen a cap like this? The whistle was with the cap and someone told me it may be HJ related. Thanks for any help! ..........Harry C

Well, NVA stand for the army of the G.D.R (german democratic republic), Nationale Volks Armee - therefore the "1856" is more likely a "1956"...
