    WH DAK field cap

Is this field made or a very used factory done hat?

    Thank you

          WH DAK field cap

          Hello,

Here's a few observations: continental insignia applied with same thread as used to sew up holes at 1:00 high. It's missing sweatband and liner ~ appears factory made though. Odd grommets show no age consistent with the other "weathering".

I think it's an aged fake with original insignia sewn on.

          C.

Appears to be an original SS tropical cap, stripped and re-badged post-war?
I've never handled an SS tropical cap, but I like it more than I don't....

This was not a direct vet buy but for sure was never in any collectors hand before me, could be a tropical used later in Italy?

                    Certainly Mediterranean,
But before you start seeing too many $$$ signs it's been played with. When? Who knows...

You are right, the best part is that was cheaper than a dinner for four at taco bell

                        Giorgio,
I'm sure it will be appreciated for it's historical value

                          Hello,

Thanks for the extra photos. Here's a couple neat WAF links:

Hello I have seen this type of cap brought back from Italy 44 to 45, the WH badges may or may not be period to the cap. Some of the ad-hoc units at the end were wearing a whole range of headgear. Those type of badges however are the easy type to put back on if a cap is found without badges. NZ Mark is absolutely correct it may well have started life as an SS example and is the SS type of M41/42 tropical cap with visor.

but I believe that the LW also have used that style at times and something about it sort of says LW tropical esp. the liner color & the use of that type of grommet. The LW used the widest range of styles for their M41 LW tropical cap with visor. Then again it might just be my computer monitor and you will have to settle for SS which would not be too up-setting I am sure.

I would be seeking John Hodgin's opinion on this one. Any type of LW M41 is very hard to find indeed and it is certainly an original cap with magnetic grommets which is missing nothing except perhaps the first badges it started its time with,

                            Chris

I am with NZmark, I really like it more than I don't. I would gladdly add it to my collection, different for sure but different doesn't make it total crap. Matt
