    New find; Heer sidecap: Opinions?

Hello, this is kind of out of my league but what exactly am I looking at. M38? Heer Officers "overseas" cap?

This picture must have some ingrained dirt. In your hands you wouldnt be able to tell that its there.

This is rather dark... The vary dark/black area to your right (the front) isnt anything of huge concern looks like the fibres are just compressed as I sit here looking at it.

Overall it is a very nice cap and clean interior for being covered with dirt when I originally found it. I suppose if anyone has a Luftwaffe side cap they'd like to trade - I am all ears.

we need good clear pics of the grommets inside and out and the liner
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

For better determination, better images are indeed needed (grommet close ups and liner + stitching areas).
If real (insignia appear to be genuine) its actually an enlisted pattern cap , not officers!
and the branch based on the waffenfarbe soutche (correctly applied btw) = Administrative (Verwaltung)
Wool looks brand new...either well stored or?
Looks promising so far but images are fuzzy...

Very interesting. I am surprised at the lack of information that was on google about the overseas/side caps.
So this is an eye opener into what it is. About the condition it is rather surprising, as I found it in a "dirt pile" of sorts, with a bunch of old metal and wood. Barely unrecognizable four hours ago, to be honest having seen its original state and color I assumed I stumbled on a DAK cap.

Here are some more images, I do hope these shed more light onto the situation - all my photos seem to end up dark.

Having looked at it several times I never even noticed the open beak, but when its in your hands the area is barely noticable. However, looking at other websites theres very little proof to determine wether or not this item may be a 'bad one', as well as on this website where an 'open beak' doesnt necessarily mean its a write off as there are original 'open beak' eagles. Does anyone have a cap like this as comparison???

So besides the childish posts how about going the distance?
                Thanks.

Here is the interior directly behind the eagle and cockade.

If asking if the eagles beak is open is a childish post, then maybe I should apologise, but to me it seems a reasonable question, and as appears the case, that such eagles can be good, I aquired some useful knowledge.
PS I couldnt find the eagle in Jaquesf's post.

Negative. On the contrary thanks for bringing it to my attention that means more information is required. Just too bad google didnt help as far as an extensive search.

It was more about the post about seagulls that caught me off guard and the lack of any real opinion.

@Jacques; Thank you very much for the information! So yours being an M34 is it safe to say the open beak eagles must be an early, yet odd looking, design?

In some other thread someone called that eagle a "tucan", but it is original. I have seen it on period pics, one very clear. I just cannot find it now. Jacques
