These are not really my collecting area but the insignia is fake, the beret looks bad to me as well.

Yeah I dont like it for a couple of reasons. One it doesnt conform to any of the wartime photos. By size and shape, wartime photos show the crash helmet much larger taking all of the cloth and it has to be stretched over the helmet. Another thing is the stiched border at the bottom never seen that before. 2nd I also dont like the patch its correct in size but it was 100% stitched and cannot rub off like the oakleaves in this one. 3rd I dont like the loop at the top it was much larger on known real ones. You should also be able to see light through it and it should have a spiral pattern. Does it glow under UV light? Here is a copy of good beret (aka cloth cover for crash helmet)

Thanks alot for the detailed answer, it is very much appreciated.
I agree with all you say ,except that IMO some war time pics seem to show these huge berets , I mean HUGE....while others show a more slimmed down version. That is not meant as an argument or to dispute your opinion, its just something I had already noticed. Please see pics .....1st one with slimmed down look, 2nd one with huge beret.
Also .... "Another thing is the stiched border at the bottom never seen that before."
Do you mean the approx. 1 inch wide border around the bottom edge?
              Thanks again. N

insignias are fake on both panzer berets shown
Give a man an opinion and you feed him for a day,
teach a man to use the "search" function on the WAF and you feed him for a lifetime.

I disagree as the last beret is in several books and at least one musuem. I have seen them with and without the crash helmet. The oakleaves were hand cut and stitched this is correct. It must have a spiral pattern in the inside and be semi see through also the top knot must be a certain length. Lastly why some seem smaller than others is because when it comes out of the crash helmet its stretched and looks like a floppy chef head and wants to fall over. If you wash it, it will be alot smaller. I have inspected many at the MAX show and everytime I take one off the crash helmet its real loose and floppy. Its thin by hat standards it was just made to cover the crash helmet and not be a stand alone hat. Only thing I didnt like about the first example was that the thread was rubbing off (the color) that shouldnt happen.

Sadly, this counts for very little. Ignoring the tam altogether, for a start the insignia are known reproductions.

Many reference works and museums contain spurious examples; I would suspect that is the case here.

                            Crash Beret

So does anyone have any ideas what the first beret may be? It is obviously a military 'crash' style beret, but I do not know of any other countries that had such a beret .
I am not trying to make this out to be anything it is not, just trying to figure out what it is. Thx. N

I would venture to say that it was made by someone skilled enough to do so that could not afford an original, or it is produced as a collector copy. Most likely the latter,
