Be careful with this one Dion. When I was in Germany 25 years ago, Diethard Feibig had some of these for sale, all gorgeous with celleon insignia. Upon close examination, they were rebuilt officer caps, upgraded to General.

I agree 100% with Gene. The piping does not look right to me.

          Hi Gene

From what i gathered out of this one is it was unworn. The band and all was stiff and there appears to be no wear on the inside at all.

As you can see there is still packing paper inside the brim.

The condition is good except for 1 moth nip in the back of it.

Hey good to see you back btw.

              Heres the piping

Mike, Iam glad I was not feeling brave today then in that case.

                Gene:

Diethard Feibig... That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Do you know if he's still around?

                Regards,

I sure don't. I picked up some killer things from him way back when but he also had some shady items that he'd sell to people who didn't know their stuff.

Just looking at the green underside of the visor would be enough to make me run. the rest of the cap looks equally as suspicious.

upon further thought, I'll clarify. The green underside of the visor is OK, it's the shade of green and the texture that I don't like.

You would think that if a faker puts stirndruckfrei on the SS, they would at the least incorporate it in ot the cap

                            Real

                            Dion,

Once you see a real Luftwaffe General's visor, you will probably know it immediately. It will make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Here is one from my former collection that appeared on the cover of the Halcomb book. It is a Clemens Wagner.

The quality and shape are unmistakable ....

That said, most collectors of headgear (as well as the dealers) know that you will only see a handful of these in your entire collecting career. In 20 years, I have only handled three that I knew were real. And the real ones will be incredibly expensive. I paid what I thought was a very high price for this one but I am quite sure it is worth 2 to 3 times that today.

                            Mike

Geez, Mike, I never knew you owned that "cover girl"--one of the best in existence!
