            Correct--it is an early 1950's DDR Post Visor. I don't believe the DDR ones ever used velvet. Looks like this one was (poorly) applied over the wool band. Insignia is probably real.

              hi stonemint, some year ago I came across an Emhage such like this with a velvet band. The outside was absolutely as wartime ones. The only diference was in the inside of the piping (nylon) and, of course, the inside lining/sweatband.
              I think that very early ones was just like they were during third reich.

                Well, the use of velvet was not unusual on civilian caps in East-Germany. I have got a Bus-drivers cap from the 60s/70s (I can't tell exactly) It has a dark green velvet cap-band.
