Afrika helmet in a very-very used condition

    hi guys,

My new collector friend bought a very used Afrika helmet, yesterday.

He would like to ask you, that what do you think this Afrika helmet is an orig piece? I think, that it's an orig piece, but I never see such helmet.

If it's an orig piece, then what can be see that this is an original helmet or not. I would like to learn, too

    Thanks in advance.

    regards Gabor

                  Nice and Salty original

                  Hi,
It's very salty indeed and obviously an original WW2 'pith' helmet.
It's mostly likely a first pattern Heer, and might be a green one, from the pics, which would make it rarer, than a tan one, or a second pattern. It might have a makers name and date under the leather band, which might have an impressed stamp on the other side as well.
It has a very dark looking leather edge trim, which you do see on early green 1st pattern Heer piths, but it is also typical for the later KM types. It might have been an early green luft type, but they should have a light tan trim, so I don't think so.
In my opinion, it is a 1st pattern green Heer tropical pith helmet.
