      I would take it off but i am scared the pins might break have you any experience with this ?

        It does look better in the new pics, maybe its a late war krieg metal and is degrading, but hard to be certain.
        Taking it off will probably result in it breaking, unless you can slide it out, as it's only partially attached, without bending the pins. If it's a fake, it might not matter so much if you break it.

          I also think it's a casting, those cast eagles are rather detailed, but the pattern used is from a early buntmetal eagle while the material used is some kinda potmetal mix of tin and lead, rather tough, but it'll melt in a flame, the prongs are round and blunt.

          There're zink pith eagles, but most of the time their prongs are copper and round with sharp point, like a nail.

            Agree with Jos, Eagle is cast not stamped, thus bad. Sun helmet is good but the Eagle has been re-applied post war...
