    Hi

    Did these come with the band around the hat in this ruffled form? I always thought this was a British trait?

    It's not a standard german pattern, and might be british, but I would need to see underneath. It is not like any in the Kurtz book, or any of the other books I have. The germans did use Italian piths, but I don't recognise this as one of the types I know, though there are about 4 types of Italian pith, I think.
    Also the pith sheild visible is heer or lufty, not KM, as it has a border, whereas the KM type don't.

    More pics are needed.
