    Never handled a real one but my gut is telling me this doesn't look good.

      I've never seen a a real one in the flesh, so my opinions are based on photos/books.

      I think its wrong because,

      1, It looks like someone has aged it
      2, the seams are different to the ones I can look at, ie, figueroa's and kurtz's books are the best photos for this. The front and side seams appear too wide on this and constructed differently, though the wire vent version has seams constructed in a similar manner to this example, but are of a different width.
      3, the peak looks a bit square
      4, the peak looks a bit fat/thick
      5, the celluloid is missing, though not very serious as they often are missing

      These are only my own opinions and might be incorrect.

      Thanks, JerryBB

          I can't reject the one shown quite yet, because there are several styles.

          Here's the one I have.

              From what I can see of Leroy's mayer cap, it is a good one, with the more common seam construction, as well as a more rounded and thinner peak.
              Very nice.

                C´mon Leroy - you really have a LW general´s summer cap in the background - please show it!

                Cheers, Jack

                      I like Leroy's Meyer cap, but not the cap that started this thread.

                      Dislikes of the subject cap:

                      * The application of the tropical cockade and eagle
                      * The eagle and cockade
                      * The piping
                      * The overall construction
                      * The artificial weathering
                      * The bill
                      * Can't make out the markings or year of mfr. but don't like what I can see
                      * I'm also not sold on the chinstrap

                      Just my thoughts.

                        I agree with Larry. I have one in my collection and have handled & examined many of these and, although made by different makers, the construction, material, and bill of this one is not consistent with those I've seen, plus the

                        Leroy, your summer LW general's visor is a beauty but I suspect you knew that already. : -)
