Headgear of the HG Panzer Men

An old friend recently left me for a new home, namely a black M43 cap. It didn't have any insignia on it but the ghost outline of a very big trapezoid was obvious to see. I never did restore it because I was unsure of whether it was an SS or Luftwaffe trap, i.e. making it a HG cap. It was most certainly not a regular Heer trap.

Anyway, it got me interested in the subject of HG black headgear again. There is very little information about this area on the forum and even less original examples posted.

The aim here is to try and fill in some of the blanks.

Chris posted an excellent thread on HG KC winner Karl Rossmann awhile back with some great photos including Rossmann wearing a black M43 with trap insignia. I'll post some of those photos here again for interest.

Any and all contributions of period photos and of course examples of original black HG headgear would be very much appreciated.

Well, makes a change from the "is it real?" threads!

    Cheers
    Ben

Chris Mason posted this one after a long thread of whether or not these even existed.

Sidecap. Looks like he's got a regular blue wool backed breast eagle?

I'm loving this thread... thanks Ben!

Did you ever get an answer to the question "does ANYBODY on the WAF own a black Luftwaffe trap?"

That would be a huge piece to the puzzle.

I got a few pm's from people who claimed that they have or used to have black M43's with Luft traps, black and blue but I never got to see any photos.

From the book "Hermann Goring Panzer Division in Sicily" Anyone got this?

I had to resize this small pic but it's the only one I know of with Trop uniform and black cap.

Great thread, Ben--these guys seem to get lost in the "SS Shuffle".

My personal favorite pic--nothing like the LW visor with the black wraps:

Check this out--two of the LW officers are wearing black wrappers with the blue-gray breeches (imho, the most dashing uniform combo of the war).
