I have been reading the list serve for days now...still trying to figure out what to look for on a luft helmet, or heck any helmet for that matter. The Baer book is out of print...now listing for over $105!! Does this forum have a resource center that goes over specific details to look for? Do you have any thought on the lacquer issue on the luft helmets he sells? His prices are more then fair from what I have been able to figure out thus far. I went to inspect themn both personally last week, but chickened out because I just don't know enough to make an educated guess. What I need is a checklist or something to go over each helmet I'm looking for.

Sorry for the rant, but the more I read the less and less confident I feel about making any investment . I guess I'll get over that eventually.

        Hi

I sent you a PM. My wife is from Savannah and I will be there for a week. We may be able to meet there. I know a little about visor caps, helmet and tunics. I may not buy anything but it is fun to look. I will be bringing some reference books.

        thanks

          First...

"The History of the German Steel Helmet" by Ludwig Baer is no longer out of Print. Bender Publishing has the book for $54.95. Check this link...

          http://www.bender-publishing.com/

By joining the Wehrmacht Militaria Collectors Association (WMCA) you get a 20% discount on purchases from Bender. Joining only cost $20/year. Buy a few books from Bender and the membership pays for itself.

          Second...

You are off to a good start by reading this forum. I suggest that you buy your first helmet from a trustworthy source. Look at it closely and get some experience within the helmet collecting field. There are numerous trustworthy dealers out there, and that will be a good place to start.

          Good luck.

My in laws used to live near Savannah...I believe this dealer used to display in one of the big antique malls downtown? I have looked at his stuff a few times. As Perry says, a mix of good and bad. I wouldn't buy something from him unless I knew exactly what I was looking at... He also has a website I believe.

              Alex,
I have purchased a helmet from this dealer that was bad and he refunded my money with no hassles.

Dealt with him once ( Luft. downed flier armband ) , piece had
original wear, but the stiching glowed under a black light,
I let it slide. Seemed easy to deal with. There are lots of other
                sites I'd deal with first.

You are exactly right, but that antique store on Broughton Street is now closed sadly. He does have a website I think it is www.pandkmilitaryantiques.com...but I may be off there...not positive. Thanks for the feedback...I'll take my time.

Thanks for the reply. He seemed very easy to deal with and had no issues with returning something that was not authentic. Nice guy. If you have some favorite sites to share please let me know.

Thanks for the reply. He is a nice guy and has no problem refunding if you are not satisfied. If I knew what to look for a little better, I would still consider his stuff, but right now I just don't feel confident in my own knowledge.

                      Thanks

Thanks Juan! I'd be happy to meet sometime while you are down there. I'll be back starting the 29th. I'll try the PM thing and see if it works...haven't tried that yet.
