I don't particularily like its profile, its not quite what I would expect on a Luftwaffe cap. If its real, it started out as an enlisted cap of some sort. I'm not real keen on its officer's insignia or the piping style. An EM upgrade could have used the common officers cap piping, but that type used from time to time for upgrades but usually on an M-43 where you can't use the standard piping unless the top seam is opened up. Hopefully the Luft. insignia guys will weigh in. Should be interesting to see what others say.

I agree with Richard. The profile of the cap is not what I would expect. I have never seen an eagle like that either. Too much of it to me is wrong.

The cap may be an original of some sort. But, the shape is wrong for a Luftwaffe cap, I don't like the insignia, and I definitely don't like the officer piping and its application.

I just stumbled on this thread. Is there a problem with the twisted style of piping being used on these caps or is there something wrong with the piping manufacture? The reason I ask is because I have a vet acquired HG Panzer officer's cap with this piping.

No, but the piping should indicate an "upgrade" to officer, in which case the cap would normally retain EM insignia. That the cap in question has officer insignia is a problem.

If a guy made officer and had piping applied, wouldn't it be his choice to also upgrade the bird? I'm not defending this cap in particular, just questioning the logic. Twisted piping doesn't always denote upgrade. I'm positive my cap left the Berolina Berlin factory with this piping.

                    Not likely.

                    Strange, very strange.

More than you deserve, but if you had more experience and less attitude you might not think so. Did you post any photos for an accurate judgement? No, easier for you to complain.

Since you are so certain of this, what additional information do you need?

I'm directing my question at those who've said that twisted piping is incorrect/questionable. I don't need to validate my cap, I'm letting it be known that caps left the factory with this piping.

Interesting you have this knowledge, so you were there when it left the factory, or do you have period photos of this piping being factory applied?

I gather "no" in both cases. So in fact, it is your comment which is meaningless unless you can validate it.

Validate unless I was there? Did you serve in WW2 to know that it happened?
