I have had this cap fpr a good few years, it came from a collection in Paris. Goes anyone have any knowledge, information or opinions on it? I do not know the unit or the reason for the red/white ribbon, maybe one of the forum members does? It has obviously had an eagle sewn on at some time, but, as I believe the foreign volunteers got mostly secondhand uniform and were officially banned from displaying the national emblems, that is not surprising.

Thank you gentlemen for your informative replys. Like you Glenn, I considered the ink stamps to be far fresher than the condition of the cap might warrant. However, I thought that cap could well have been a re-cycled, war-weary, piece, having already seen out its official issue period before re-issue to a foreign volunteer. If that was the case, any stamps made for re-issue would appear far more recent than the condition of the cap would indicate. Those are just my musings, as I said I have has the cap fpr some time and, in that time, I have considered many scenarios. Glenn, would you like to see better quality scans of any particular areas? Thanks again,
Kerry.

but it could have also been added post war to make a salty cap more exotic and desirable... boosting its value...Who knows?
