Heer Overseas cap, good or bad?

    Hey Guys,

Today I just picked up my first Heer overseas cap, but I'm not sure what to think about this one. I really lack experience with cloth headgear, so I'm hoping someone can help me out here. What worries me is the wool is a nice dark green color.... doesn't appear to be faded at all. The inside of the cap shows slight wear, I think there may be a bit of a marking, but it's either very worn out, or I am imagining things. There is a small moth nip, and a small repair on the edge.

Here are several pictures, I hope they are good enough, if not I can post more. The price seemed OK, so I decided to take a gamble on it, and at least I got a money back guarantee...

Just a note, the inside lining of the cap is some sort of rougher material, different than that found in my Luftwaffe overseas caps.

Do not think it is a good one.
              Why ?
Mdl. 34 side caps usually have air vents.
The eagle is set way to low.
There are no threads in the front to hold the fold up.
              Just a few observations.

...in some unusual case there was original m34 side cap without air vents as well. I saw one of them came out from a mountain of rags...Believe me.

Thanks for the replies, do you think this could be an original one? Can anyone tell me if the insignia on this cap is authentic?

I don't like this overseas cap
                    (wool, and lining)
                    Eagle is original for me

I think it stands a chance of being a period cap.. I would shop for another example IF you are looking for the standard HEER overseas cap..looks a little nicer than company tailor made but my be or maybe foriegn..an intersting type but non standard.. As already stated you would be looking for one with vent grommets if you want the normal.. also most have a ribbed grayish cast cotton lining..usually marker marked and size and dated often depot marked.. Thanks for the info Billbert, but I don't know what to think now. As I said, I don't know much about this sort of thing, but I do like how the insignia is sewn on. But it worries me how the cap isn't faded at all. Unless it saw very little use or was unissued. I talked to another collector who said he thought this was a French made cap.

If anyone else has opinions on this cap please feel free to post, I am really torn on this one . I might post some more pictures later, just in case it helps a bit.

I took a chance on this one at $210. I wasn't specifically looking for one, it just caught my eye at an antique store.

Here are some better photos of the lining, might be a bit bright because of the flash. Also, I held a black light to every part of the cap, nothing glowed... which doesn't really prove anything, but at least no red flags there.

I don't know how much the additional photos will help, sounds like this type of cap is somewhat controversial. I don't know if I should try to return it, keep it, or sell it.
