Yes, the cap is not a rare type. You will find a lot of LW officer caps for the same price in much better condition.

I think the eagle is as big it could be from a tunic?

Hello, to those of us that are Luft pilot gear collectors a hat as such would be considered most desirable because of the wear. One can find endless photos of pilots wearing their well worn 50 mission caps. We pilot collectors smirk at the pristine, minty better condition caps. This one pictured for $800 is a deal. I get emails all the time from collectors wanting this type of appearance. I have several of this type and if no one wants this one I will be first in line to have. Best, Bill Bourque

There are some nice caps shown here, but the one issue you have with the subject cap is the term 50 mission.

The cap is not a true 50 mission look cap. 50 mission caps have wear associated with the activity of those missions etc.. This cap in my opinion is suffering from a lot of poor storage. It isn't service wear that caused most of the damage.

service caps that were battered etc in missions do not seem to have seriously frayed piping at the front. I had a Ce Ha Prima Halfar 50 mission in stock that has just been sold, it was dirty, it was well shaped but it wasn't like this one or the majority of the other 50 missions I have seen. Now I'm not saying that this is being pushed in the wrong direction, but some peoples views of storage and actual service wear are different from others.

If you decide to buy it, the equivalent of Ā£300 would be a fair price.

On another note, A UK dealer showed me a 50 mission lufty officer Erel cap at our Yate show last Sunday. Fully marked, vented cockade as well and he had the sweatband replaced. When he bought it, the original stirnshutz band was in it but loose. He thought it was alright to put a new one in

I told him that I would have bought it if it had still had the original band in it, he said you can have it for Ā£275, I said not with a replaced band old son.

[QUOTE=Wijtman01;anyone dealed with the man who is selling[/QUOTE]

I've had numerous dealings with Gary & never been disappointed. He's a completely honorable guy. I don't really consider him a 'dealer' where he's just reducing his own collection (which is extensive). I would say that you could have 100% confidence that he's a straight shooter.

Have a look under the sweat band in the front if there is a ventilation hole. Otherwise I also like the cap. You seldom regret things you buy, but very often the ones you didnĀ“t!
