Wow - How many "tells" are there on this cap? It should be pinned at the top of the forum as an almost perfect example of everything to look for in a fake!

Actually, it is somewhat of a collectors item--it is another Rodger Steele/Hollywood Military Hobbies special from the late 60's/early 70s. Strange how these are popping up of late.

Stone (et al), I had never heard of Hollywood Military Hobbies or Roger Steele until the last few months when some of these started popping up on eBay and the Web. Does anyone have a short back story on this guy and HMH?

There are others who know more about Steele than me. There is a pic of him in one of the old "War Booty" books by Johnston. He sold some good stuff, and a lot of bad--deliberately. He ended up getting shot in 1979--I can't recall who shot him or why (maybe a disgruntled collector who bought the hat that started this thread?)

                      Here is a matchbook cover--he really was a self-promoter:

A price list--no wonder he could sell those hats so cheap:

He also supplied the uniforms (and starred in) the first "Nazi-Porn" movie,

Thanks for the remarks and the interesting story at the end! I needed this info for a dispute I have with the man who supplied me with this item.

It has parentage of the Panzer NCO that HERRWILSON posted for comments recently. Those wide hole screens are awful.

Hey Chris, I like the bit on the matchbook about the discriminating collector, did he really mean decerning? or was he going for the Skinhead (Nick the army shop owner on Falling Down) type.
