I'm not very familiar with caps, but today at my local auction, the following cap was in a box, listed as "Lot 724 quantity of collectables", in this lot were various items of a non military theme, that most of us would throw away !, except this cap, the auctioneer normally has a good idea of most things either antique or military, so at first I thought this must be a postwar cap, but the longer I looked at it, the more I felt that it was the genuine thing.
The clear outline of the badge is visable, sweat band marked EREL and also very faintly beneath the plastic in a diamond. There was a tissue also tucked in behind the sweat band. I bought the lot for £30, and I feel that this is the real thing.
Over to the experts for an opinion.

Great condition as well apart from the fag stained piping and chincords. Can you lift up the leather sweatband in the front please? There should be a brass vent hole through the front of the cap.
