    Visor with Dyed Piping?????

    This is a link to a thread on a tunic and hat that were supposedly brought back in this condition. I bought the tunic and hat, once removed from the veteran and only weeks after it surfaced.

    I would appreciate any insight on dyed piping as it appears to have been the most poorly done job I could imagine.

    Of course, I understand the hat has no collector monitary value and only has amusement value, now.

          Interior. With careful scrutiny and a well trained eye, you may be able to detect some trace of the blue dye used to color the piping.

          Note the sweat band is removed and pnly padding is at the forehead. The liner has been carefully sewn into the hat.

                  I would say most likely collector dyed several decades ago when this stuff was not worth much.Maybe he wanted a different branch color.


                  I just can't see a German officer making this mess in his hat.

                    To my knowledge, this has never been in any collector's hands. I have the name and contact address of the veteran, who brought it back, and have written him a letter to ask about this.

                    If you look at the link I provided, it came with a model 1936 NCO/Officer Candidare tunic for transportation.

                    I do not believe it is possible to remove the plue ink or dye to return the hat ot it's former state.

                              I know if I were an aspiring NCO/officer candidate that I certainly would not dump a bottle (or two) of blue ink inside my hat just to change the piping color. Not only would it change the piping but it would also color the visors surrounding wool blue.

                              A very odd thing to do and makes no sense to me,Perhaps even the Veteran did it.
