    Schirm KM NCO

    Salut ,

What do you think of this Kriegmarine visor cap ?

Excempt the black buttons of the chin-strap I can not see anything wrong but I have a strange gut feeling about it .

    Many thanks for your help.
I am sitting on the fence on this one ...

    Re-

To resume my opinion on this cap :

    Good points :

    - the celluloid sweat diamond,
    - the mohair band,
    - the position of the mohair band,
    - the cocarde that looks original,
    - the visor and the trim around it,
    - the chin-strap ,
    - the blue lining,

    Bad points :

    - Chin-Straps buttons . Have you ever seen black ones ?

"I am not sure" points :

    - the stiching of the leather sweat band,
    - the ventilation grommets - my big & main interrogation mark !!

I have seen some on good Polizei visors but there were bigger with a little mesh. I dont know about those.

Is it possible de find such ventilation grommets on a KM peaked-cap ?
Or is it a clear sign that the cap is post-war made ?

I can not make up my mind about that one ...
Maybe you guys see something I dont ?
So many thanks for your opinions.

      Hello Yves

I would pass for this one

I think it is a cap for the "marine du commerce", never seen grommets on a genuine WW2 Kriegsmarine visor cap !!!...

Hi Yves, sorry but I agree with the above comment, no grommets on KM caps. Not a WW2 Km cap for sure.

Isn't this one for sale on ebay from France?

This may actually be a wartime cap, but it certainly is not standard for a KM (grommets, no piping above and below band, chinstrap, other points mentioned). It MAY be water police or some other entity connected with waterway services, but I don't think it's KM.

I don't like body, grommets, chinstrap...

I am not a fan of those grommets either -- it may be a period piece, but I doubt it is Kriegsmarine. If it is, it would be a very nonstandard variant I have never seen.
