Can you post some pics of the soutache and how it is attached to the front of the cap? We need to look behind and underneath.

The eagle sure looks to be reapplied.. For one thing, it would be white rather than grey if contemperaneous with the soutache.

                Incorrect (IMHO).

I thought they were still using the white eagles when the regs did away with the soutache. Of course, it would not be the first time I was mistaken.

                    about regulation orders,
                    - black feldmütze for panzertruppen was adopted marsh 27, 1940.
                    - grey (silbergrau) thread used for eagle applied on feldmützen replaced white (weiss) thread june 4, 1940.
                    - soutache for all existing feldmützen had to be removed july 10, 1942.

period pics studying shows that those rules were far to be straightly followed.

Thanks. My dates were off. I have one of these too. It was stripped of the national eagle, but had an intact cockade and soutache. The only interior marking is a size stamp. The eagle was replaced with an original white panzer cap eagle by Dave Delich. The guy I purchased it from is as honest as the day is long, and told me about the replaced eagle.

                      Yours looks original. Nice cap.

                          !!BUYER BEWARE!!

                          Johnno,
This cap was sold to a forum member who received another cap in it's place. Be very wary of anyone offering you this cap.
