JT I am with you to a point. The triple Erel’s as they are called with the tag seemed to only be on pre 1940 Erel’s. My guess is it was advertisement more than a notice of the caps options. You will never see an Erel with the “patent” (post Aug 1940) marked sweatband with the foil tag. I have owned a few 100% unissued post 1940 Erel’s and no tag nor have I ever seen one. Now as for the grommet. I truly believe that somewhere around 1943 that it became more of an extra feature. I have seen a handful of later Erel’s that I know were right as rain without the grommet but with the Stirnschutz. Now it was only on later Erel’s and it was much more common to find the grommet but I do believe it happened.

        I'm sure of it.

It is a great topic this one, that will eventually go on what the individual collector prefers I suppose.

I must admit, all of my Erel's are of the earlier type (not late war) and I will continue to collect these ones only as I prefer them with all the furniture fitted.

          cheers

JT that is why I like the early Erel's also.

By these 2 ads, we can officially date the creation of the Privat and 140 classes--Oct 1, 1938. At this time the Prima and Ideal lines were cancelled.
Note that the 140 class is referred to as their low-cost (entry-level) line:

Thanks Chris, the add was posted over on the helmet walhalla by Karl S,
I found it interesting and copied it from that forum.

I forwarded that ad to Gary Wilkins some time ago and he just recently saw it because of an inactive e-mail account. That's the first time he ever saw that ad with the Prima and No. 140 in it.

That was the first Prima I seen but I have seen a few 140’s and Ideal’s and never doubted them. As far s I can tell they were only made for about 1 yr or less.
