    Penal Battalion Cap

I have a Penal Battalion visor cap, minus the chin strap or cord. Markings on inner band, 1937 Alfred Valt and the letters HB 36. Does anyone know if there were Penal Batallion officers caps issued with the bullion chin cords? Or were they all NCO type? I would appreciate your input.

You'll want to add a leather chincord to this cap. It's an EM/NCO contract cap. It already has the Em/NCO cord buttons

              Nice cap btw!!!

Thank you for your response. Any idea as to where I might get the correct chincord?

It has been a while since my hardcore WH collecting days, but if I recall right, officers would wear a specific waffenfarbe peculiar to the unit--most often white for infantry. There were no ranks for soldiers assigned to a penal battalion, so on these waffenfarbe-less visors, one should see only an O/R chinstrap. (But I am surprised that no one has bothered to fake a Penal Officers....yet.)
