    strange cavalry overseas cap

    This dubious cap sold recently by a Southern dealer (who specializes in Civil War artifacts) with the explanation that its a "last ditch" cap which was found on a Polish farm recently.

    Could it be a POW repaired cap with altered pull down flap? Also the crown appears to be in a different color wool... and note other repairs (2 folds)
    If real its been stripped of insignia which would be the norm for POW caps
    and later bogus insignia added or the entire thing is a stinker.
    Anyway it sold already so I have no problems posting comments now...
