Edwin, I will send a pm to LennyW to view. I respect his opinion on cloth caps very much. Mike.

Edwin, do you feel any stiffener material at the base of the sweatband underneath the liner? Not all have it but it a good indicator. Mike.

interesting cap Edwin would like to see the cap from the sides and the top not so close is the top panel a reverse of the gaberdine material the material look different ? insignia looks hand sewn ,a clear shot of the ink stamps might help i am not getting a good vibe from these pics that you posted

The cap is made with Italian gabardine, the material itself seems OK
(a view of the cloth reverse could help)
About the construction, stitching, marking and lining..nothing I like to see

The grey smooth cotton is very close to a material called in french "viscose"
this one was used in the construction of very late war cap ( M43 , dot pattern 44 tunics , M44 jacket etc...)

But sadly, it's only close....but no cigar (correct me if it's not the good expression!!I try to progress in English)

interesting how the cap has patina on it and where the cap body meets the top panel it stops like it was put together with already worn material and in the worn areas there is no patina to the thread i am sceptical with out haveing it in hand
